Structure and dynamics of responsive colloids with dynamical polydispersity

چکیده
Dynamical polydispersity in single-particle properties, for example a fluctuating particle size, shape, charge density, etc., is intrinsic to responsive colloids (RCs), such as biomacromolecules or microgels, but typically not resolved coarse-grained mesoscale simulations. Here, we present Brownian Dynamics (BD) simulations of suspensions RCs modeling soft hydrogel colloids, which the size individual particles an explicitly (Gaussian) degree freedom and dynamically responds local interacting environment. We calculate liquid structure, emergent distributions, long-time diffusion, property (size) relaxation kinetics wide range densities times canonical ensemble. Comparison interesting reference cases, conventional polydisperse with frozen parent distribution, monodisperse systems effective pair potential one fixed shows significant spread structure dynamics. The differences, most apparent high density regimes, are due many-body correlations dynamical coupling between translation RC systems, accounted treatments. In particular, translational diffusion surprisingly close free (single RC) mainly cancellation crowding compression effects. show that can be constructed describes reasonably well by convoluting density-dependent distributions using mean constant.

Glassy dynamics and dynamical heterogeneity in colloids
Concentrated colloidal suspensions are a well-tested model system which has a glass transition. Colloids are suspensions of small solid particles in a liquid, and exhibit glassy behavior when the particle concentration is high; the particles are roughly analogous to individual molecules in a traditional glass. Because the particle size can be large (100 nm 1000 nm), these samples can be studied...
متن کاملPolydispersity and gelation in concentrated colloids with competing interactions.
In colloids with competing short-range attractions and long-range repulsions, microcrystalline gels are experimentally formed under conditions where computer simulations point to a lamellar phase as the ground state. Here, upon applying a low-frequency alternating electric field, we bring the system from an initial gel state to a columnar-like state. While molecular dynamics simulations on mono...
متن کاملPolydispersity induced solid–solid transitions in model colloids
Specialized Monte Carlo simulation techniques and moment free energy method calculations, capable of treating fractionation exactly, are deployed to study the crystalline phase behaviour of an assembly of spherical particles described by a top-hat ‘‘parent’’ distribution of particle sizes. An increase in either the overall density or the degree of polydispersity is shown to generate a successio...

./files/site1/files/0Abstract1.pdfIn this paper we consider a continues Lorenz – type dynamical system. Dynamical behaviors of this system such as computing equilibrium points, different bifurcation curves and computation of normal form coefficient of each bifurcation point analytically and numerically. In particular we derived sufficient conditions for existence of Hopf and Pitchfork bifurcati...
متن کاملOptical Studies of the Structure and Dynamics of Opaque Colloids
Three fundamental experiments on multi-particle interactions in hard-sphere systems are presented in this thesis. In the first experiment, a mixture of two monodisperse colloids with different particle diameters, but the same particle composition, is studied using diffusing-wave spectroscopy. We find that both the particle structure and the hydrodynamic interactions between large and small ball...
